All sizes in millimetres. The list updates as you type.

Where is it going?
Measure the alcove at the top, middle and bottom and enter the smallest. We take 10mm off the width and height so the unit fits in.

How the calculator builds your wardrobe

It uses the same simple, strong construction as our kitchen unit calculator:

  • Sides run the full height and depth, down to the floor.
  • The top and bottom fit between the sides. With a plinth, the bottom sits on top of the plinth.
  • Dividers fit between the top and bottom and split the inside into equal sections.
  • Shelves are set back 20mm, with 1mm clearance each side so they drop onto shelf pins.
  • Doors are full overlay and cover the whole front above the plinth.

Measuring an alcove

Walls and ceilings are rarely straight. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and the height at the left, middle and right, then use the smallest of each. The calculator takes 10mm off so the unit slides in, and you can hide any gap with a scribed filler.

Sizes are cut sizes. Check them against your own design and hinges before you order. Edging: "1L" means one long edge, "4 edges" means all four.

Common questions

How deep should a wardrobe be?

For coat hangers to hang straight, allow 560–600mm of depth. Shallower units (around 350–450mm) work well for shelves and folded clothes, or with a pull-out rail.

How wide can a wardrobe shelf be?

With 18mm MFC and folded clothes, keep shelves to roughly 800mm wide or less between supports, or they can sag over time. Add a divider or use thicker board for wider sections. Our shelf span checker works it out for your exact shelf.

How many hinges do wardrobe doors need?

It depends on the door's height and weight. A typical 2m tall 18mm MFC door needs 4 hinges. The results show the count for your doors, and our door sizer gives the hinge positions.

Can you cut and edge the whole list?

Yes. Enter the parts in our online cutting list to see your price and order, or WhatsApp us the list and we'll quote. We cut to 0.1mm and edge in-house.
