Work out every panel you need for a kitchen base, wall or tall unit. Enter the carcass size and the calculator lists the sides, bottom, top or rails, shelves, back and doors – with sizes, quantities and edging – ready to order cut and edged.
How to use the calculator
- Pick the unit type. Base, wall and tall units fill in standard UK heights and depths, which you can change.
- Enter the outside width of the carcass – usually 300, 400, 500, 600, 800 or 1000mm.
- Choose shelves, doors and a back. Change the door gap to suit your hinges.
- Order or download. Download the list as a CSV for Excel, copy it, or enter the parts in our online cutting list to see your price.
Standard kitchen unit sizes
Most UK kitchens use a 720mm carcass on 150mm legs, 560mm deep for base and tall units and around 320mm deep for wall units. Our kitchen cabinet sizes guide covers widths, worktop height, door sizes and corner units in detail.
Choosing board and edging
18mm MFC is the usual choice for carcasses, with a woodgrain or gloss or matt MDF for doors. A popular combination is 1mm edging on carcass front edges and 2mm on doors – see our edging thickness guide.
Common questions
Does the calculator allow for edging thickness?
No – the sizes shown are cut sizes. Edging adds up to about 2mm per banded edge, so check critical sizes, especially doors, against your design.
Can I work out a whole kitchen?
Run the calculator for each unit size and download each list, or send us your kitchen plan and we will price the full cutting list.
How many sheets will I need?
The calculator gives a rough figure. For a sheet-by-sheet layout, use our sheet calculator.
