Your opening

Measure in millimetres. Walls and ceilings are rarely straight, so measure in more than one place.

How to measure for sliding doors

  1. Width: measure from wall to wall along the ceiling and along the floor, where the tracks will go. We use the larger figure – the doors overlap, so small differences are taken up.
  2. Height: measure from floor to ceiling on the left, in the middle and on the right. We use the smallest figure so the doors fit everywhere.
  3. Depth: measure from the back wall to where the front of the doors will be. Allow about 100mm for the tracks. For clothes on hangers, a total depth of around 620–650mm is ideal.
  4. Check for obstacles: skirting boards, coving, sockets and light switches all affect where the tracks go. Take a photo – it helps.

Our sliding doors

We make made-to-measure sliding wardrobe doors in any size, with five aluminium profiles in six colours and twelve frame designs, usually in under five working days. Send us your measurements and we'll work out the exact door sizes and overlap for you.

Common questions

How many sliding doors do I need?

Most sliding wardrobe doors are between about 630mm and 1035mm wide. As a guide, 1262–2070mm openings take 2 doors, 1893–3105mm take 3 and 2524–4140mm take 4. Where two options overlap, we'll suggest the one that looks most balanced.

Which width measurement do I use?

Measure at the top and bottom where the tracks will go and use the larger figure. Use the smallest of your height measurements.

How deep does a sliding wardrobe need to be?

Allow around 620–650mm in total for clothes on hangers, including about 100mm for the tracks. Shallower spaces work well for shelving or with pull-out rails.

Are the door widths exact?

No – the widths shown are a guide. The exact sizes depend on the profile you choose and how much the doors overlap, so we confirm them with you before we make anything.
