Plain and specialist MDF by quote

We also cut standard, moisture-resistant, flame-retardant and exterior-grade MDF from Medite, Finsa and Spanolux. These are not in the online shop yet, so send us your cutting list and we will price it, usually within one working day. Plain MDF normally comes in 2440 × 1220mm (8ft × 4ft) sheets – our UK board sizes guide lists the common thicknesses.

What MDF is best for

  • Painted kitchen and wardrobe doors – the smooth face and edges paint without grain showing through.
  • Shaker and routed doors – the fine core machines into crisp profiles on our CNC.
  • Wall panelling, media walls and alcove units.
  • High-gloss and super-matt fronts using lacquered decorative MDF.

MDF is heavier than chipboard and standard grades should not be used where they will get wet – for kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms use moisture-resistant MDF.

Edging and finishing MDF

Painted MDF does not need edging – edges are sealed and painted with the face. Lacquered and decorative MDF panels are edged with matching ABS edging applied with PUR glue, usually 1mm or 2mm. Our edgebanding guide explains which thickness to choose.

MDF cut to size: common questions

Which thickness of MDF should I use for doors?

18mm or 19mm is standard for kitchen and wardrobe doors. Thinner MDF suits panelling and drawer bottoms, and thicker boards suit worktop-style shelves and heavy-duty parts.

Can you cut MDF for wall panelling?

Yes – send us the panel sizes and quantities and we will cut them accurately, ready for you to fix and paint.

Can you route a shaker profile into MDF doors?

We machine grooves, recesses and shapes on our CNC. Send a drawing or describe the profile on the enquiry form and we will confirm what we can do.
